This all star
band of great musicians are together for the first time – ever!
Not only playing
a selection of music from those heady, foot stomping days and nights of R
’n B in the 60’s .… but also backing the legendary
LONG JOHN BALDRY
and special guest RAY DORSET aka MUNGO JERRY.
This evening’s
entertainment is a must - if you like good music!
LONG JOHN BALDRY
– A legend in his lifetime, this man helped establish the
British blues scene too long ago for it to be polite to mention! The mid
60's saw him touring with Steampacket supporting The Rolling Stones. Well
respected, an established and successful performer by the late 60s,
international fame came with his huge hit Let The Heartache Begin,
followed a year later in 1968 by another massive hit Mexico.
He’s featured in TV and radio documentaries, not only on the history of
British Rock but also on those tempestuous times when he played with Elton
John and discovered Rod Stewart. This man’s soul and voice are the very
heart of R ‘n B.
RAY DORSET aka
MUNGO JERRY
- Ray Dorset started out playing skiffle (didn’t everyone?)
before forming his Jug Band – Mungo Jerry in 1969 – little did they
realise just how successful they would be just a year later! The name
Mungo Jerry is familiar to many and Ray’s voice is instantly recognisable!
He became massively famous in 1970 with his hit In The Summertime
– the most played summertime song ever! A testament to his great song
writing skills is that Mungo Jerry had 8 UK hit singles with 3 at number
1. Ray’s never stopped writing or performing and has recently released his
blues album Candy Dreams.
ZOOT MONEY
- One of the best ‘good time performers’ in the business. Zoot not only
plays great keyboards but sings with guts and emotion. He’s been a
formidable contributor to the British music scene for four
decades! Playing with Alexis Korner, as well as his own Big Roll Band he
became a permanent fixture at The Flamingo in
Wardour Street – known for his somewhat outrageous antics on stage. Zoot
was influenced in his early days by Jerry Le Lewis and Ray Charles (gives
you some idea of his inspiration). He’s been a writer, musical director,
producer, actor. He tours, not only with his own Big Roll Band, but
performs regularly with Alan Price. This man is not only hugely talented
but great fun too!
PAUL WILLIAMS
- Paul’s phenomenal vocal style was nurtured during the
great blues boom of the 60s, working with Alexis Korner, Zoot and John
Mayall. He joined the band Juicy Lucy before achieving
huge success as the lead vocalist with prog rock band Colosseum
- touring worldwide. He was the first British singer to really acknowledge
the influence of Robert Johnson, putting together a tribute album to the
master which is currently on re-release. These days he’s back to his
bluesy roots!
RONNIE JOHNSON - This
man is a guitar maestro. His list of playing credits is lengthy and
includes appearances with some of the top performing artists in the world,
including: Van Morrison, Bob Dylan, Sting, Jimmy Witherspoon, John Lee
Hooker, Marianne Faithful, Brian Kennedy, Jon Hendricks and more. He’s
also recorded with Van Morrison, Sting, Tom Jones, Joe Cocker, Peter
Green, Georgie Fame and Michael Bolton – just to name a few! Ronnie is a
composer of note, writing for TV and major advertisers.
COLIN HODGKINSON
- Colin began his career opening for The Beatles in 1963. Developing his
talent as a formidable bass guitarist, he joined Alexis Korner in the late
60s and stayed with him for almost 20 years. He’s toured extensively -
spending a year with Whitesnake before joining various R&B all star line
ups, featuring artists such as Brian Auger, Chris Farlowe, Spencer Davis,
Tony Ashton and other names from the Sixties. In 1999 he was invited by
Bill Wyman to open on his Rhythm Kings tour with a 30 minute solo set and
in 2001Gary Moore asked Colin to open on his successful UK tour. Last year
Colin toured 44 dates with The Spencer Davis Group.
COLIN ALLEN
- Ace drummer – played sticks with John Mayall, Stone The
Crows, Bob Dylan.
GARY FOOT
- Superb sax player – he’s performed with Joan Armatrading, Jimmy Ruffin
and worked with Jamiroquai, Tom Jones, The Bee Gees and Mike Talbot from
Style Council.
