Christine has warm, earthy, clear tones in her voice mixing
styles seamlessly - crossing effortlessly between folk, blues and touches
of soul - singing from the heart - great stuff!
Her professional recording career began in the mid 1980s
when she soon came to achieve national interest singing the theme tune to
the cult hit BBC TV series - The Life and Loves of A She Devil.
Following a fruitful association with The
Richard Thompson Band, Christine featured on albums by Loudon Wainwright
and Bert Jansch and enjoyed a period of acclaim during her 7 year
partnership with Clive Gregson. Since then Christine’s musical journey
has led her to experiment with a number of equally talented partners
including Barb Jungr and with female folk super group - Daphne’s Flight.
However, it was probably her solo albums The Dark Gift of
Time and Blue Aconite which established Christine as an artist of stature
and substance both at home and abroad - culminating recently with her
successful solo tours, her performance at The Royal Albert Hall and her
warmly received work with legendary country performer Don Williams and
blues guitar maestro Eric Bibb.
Her voice featured in BBC Radio 4’s
poignant play ‘Famous’ which led to her current involvement in developing
the play for theatre and TV. She’s appeared on Mike Harding’s BBC Radio 2
Folk Show and has taken part in interviewing stars of the Royal Festival
Hall’s songwriter season for future radio airing. Although busy, she
still found time to record Into The Light - an inspired and inspiring
musical journey producing an album which is emotive, vibrant and
arresting. Christine’s most recent album Home is a celebration of live
recordings made throughout 2003 at gigs up and down the country - enhanced
with video footage, interviews etc.
2005 sees Christine exploring a new musical partnership
with her old friend Dave Kelly and his band. Many moons ago Dave’s band
recorded a great programme with Christine on Paul Jones’ BBC Radio 2 blues
programme and it’s about time they got together and did it again !
So, together once more, these two
dynamic singers are making a welcome return to singing and jamming when
they tour in the spring with The Dave Kelly Band.
Covering some of their own favourite tracks - including a
little bit country, soul, blues and folk - there’ll be a few surprises on
the show with songs that will delight from these two superb musicians.
